On Monday, August 17, 2026, a favorite Cinema Seminar returns to the Amherst Cinema, located in Amherst, Massachusetts – The Making of Casablanca, taught by local filmmaker and film expert Nina Kleinberg.
Ms. Kleinberg will discuss the making of the classic war-time drama Casablanca (1942), including the lead and supporting cast members – Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, Claude Rains, Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet, and many others. She will also discuss the work of the crew behind the camera – the director, cinematographer, editor, and composer, among others.
The seminar will begin at 6:30 pm, with a screening of Casablanca following at approximately 7:30 pm.
Tickets are $18.50 for general admission; $16.75 for students and seniors (age 65 and older); and $13.50 for Amherst Cinema Members. Tickets may be purchased online through the Amherst Cinema website. A nominal processing fee will be added to each ticket purchased online.

Since graduating film school at the University of Southern California and working as a film editor in the 1970s, Nina Kleinberg has had a long-term interest in movies and their history. She has presented a number of programs at the Amherst Cinema, and her seminar on Casablanca is a favorite.

During the week of August 10, 2026, Radio Classics channel host Greg Bell celebrates the birthday of British director Alfred Hitchcock with a two-hour block of old-time radio adaptations of two of his films and an episode of Peter Lorre’s 1947 summer series Mystery in the Air,
airing over the satellite radio service SiriusXM.
The birthday tribute includes the hour-long Lux Radio Theatre, “Strangers on a Train” (December 2, 1951); Mystery in the Air, “The Lodger” (August 14, 1947); and The Academy Award Theatre, “Shadow of a Doubt” (September 11, 1946).
Early in his career, Alfred Hitchcock directed the silent thriller The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog (1927), based on the 1913 novel The Lodger, written by Marie Belloc Lowndes. In 1947, Lowndes’ novel was adapted for an episode of Lorre’s radio series Mystery in the Air.

Los Angeles Museum Includes Lorre
As part of their series “Summer of Thrills”, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, located in Los Angeles, California, will present a showing of M (1933), the first sound movie of both Peter Lorre and German director Fritz Lang, on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
At 2:30 pm, Howard A. Rodman, governor of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, will present the film in the Ted Mann Theater, located in the Saban Building.
Tickets are $5 for all seats. Tickets may be purchased at the Museum box-office or online through the Museum website.
