During the week of September 7, 2026, the Radio Classics channel, airing over the SiriusXM satellite service, observes the milestones of two iconic series – the 83rd anniversary of old-time radio series Mollé Mystery Theatre and the 60th anniversary of the original television series Star Trek.
And Peter Lorre fans can enjoy two episodes of his series Mystery Playhouse – “Nightmare” (November 28, 1944) and “Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper” (February 27, 1945).
Celebrating the 83rd anniversary of the mystery series Mollé Mystery Theatre, Radio Classics channel host Greg Bell presents a two-hour block of episodes, including “Nightmare” (November 28, 1944), “Last Night” (February 22, 1946), “Night Must Fall” (April 12, 1946), and “St. Louis Lady” (August 23, 1946).
And in honor of the 60th anniversary of Gene Roddenberry’s science-fiction TV series Star Trek, Bell hosts a two-hour block of radio shows scripted by Trek writers Roddenberry, Theodore Sturgeon, and Robert Bloch, as well as an episode starring Trek regular DeForest Kelly, who played the starship Enterprise doctor McCoy – X-Minus One, “Mr. Costello, Hero” (July 3, 1956), written by Theodore Sturgeon; Mollé Mystery Theatre, “Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper” (February 27, 1945), written by Robert Bloch; Suspense, "Fleshpeddler" (August 8, 1957), with DeForest Kelley; and Have Gun, Will Travel, “Helen of Abajinian” (January 4, 1959), written by Gene Roddenberry.

In the mid-1940s, Peter Lorre frequently hosted the Armed Forces Radio Series program Mystery Playhouse, which aired specially-edited episodes of Mollé Mystery Theatre, as well as other mystery and horror series, including The Whistler, Inner Sanctum Mysteries, Mr. and Mrs. North, and many others.
These episodes would be recorded on thick records and shipped abroad to American military men and women, serving overseas during World War II.
Peter Lorre also has a Star Trek connection. His first wife, Celia Lovsky guest-starred in the second season opener “Amok Time” on September 13, 1967, as the Vulcan priestess T’Pau, in which Spock (Leonard Nimoy) must return to his home planet Vulcan and wed his betrothed T’Pring (Arlene Martel). The marriage ceremony becomes a fight to the death between Spock and Captain Kirk (William Shatner).

Lorre Noir at Chicago Cinema
On Friday, September 4, 2026, “Noir City” returns to the Music Box Theatre in Chicago, Illinois, for a week of film noir classics, including Peter Lorre, Dan Duryea, and June Vincent in a 35mm print of Black Angel (1946).
Black Angel will be shown at 7 pm on Saturday, September 5, presented by Eddie Muller, the “Czar of Noir” and host of Turner Classic Movies channel “Noir Alley”.
Tickets are $15 for General Admission; $14 for seniors, age 65 and older; and $12 for Music Box Theatre members. Tickets may be purchased at the cinema box office. Tickets may also be purchased through the Music Box website. A nominal fee will be added to each ticket purchased online.
A festival pass is also available – $150 for general admission, and $120 for Music Box members.

The historic Lark Theater, located in Larkspur, California, steps into the shadows of film noir the week of September 2, 2026, with a festival including Peter Lorre’s first sound movie M (1931) – and ending with the detective movie spoof The Cheap Detective (1978).
M will be shown on Friday, September 4, at 9:15 am, and again on Saturday, September 5, at 5:40 pm.
