During the week of September 7, 2026, the Radio Classics channel, airing over the SiriusXM satellite service, observes the milestones of two iconic series – the 83rd anniversary of old-time radio series Mollé Mystery Theatre and the 60th anniversary of the original television series Star Trek.
And Peter Lorre fans can enjoy two episodes of his series Mystery Playhouse – “Nightmare” (November 28, 1944) and “Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper” (February 27, 1945).

And in honor of the 60th anniversary of Gene Roddenberry’s science-fiction TV series Star Trek, Bell hosts a two-hour block of radio shows scripted by Trek writers Roddenberry, Theodore Sturgeon, and Robert Bloch, as well as an episode starring Trek regular DeForest Kelly, who played the starship Enterprise doctor McCoy – X-Minus One, “Mr. Costello, Hero” (July 3, 1956), written by Theodore Sturgeon; Mollé Mystery Theatre, “Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper” (February 27, 1945), written by Robert Bloch; Suspense, "Fleshpeddler" (August 8, 1957), with DeForest Kelley; and Have Gun, Will Travel, “Helen of Abajinian” (January 4, 1959), written by Gene Roddenberry.

In the mid-1940s, Peter Lorre frequently hosted the Armed Forces Radio Series program Mystery Playhouse, which aired specially-edited episodes of Mollé Mystery Theatre, as well as other mystery and horror series, including The Whistler, Inner Sanctum Mysteries, Mr. and Mrs. North, and many others.
These episodes would be recorded on thick records and shipped abroad to American military men and women, serving overseas during World War II.
Peter Lorre also has a Star Trek connection. His first wife, Celia Lovsky guest-starred in the second season opener “Amok Time” on September 13, 1967, as the Vulcan priestess T’Pau, in which Spock (Leonard Nimoy) must return to his home planet Vulcan and wed his betrothed T’Pring (Arlene Martel). The marriage ceremony becomes a fight to the death between Spock and Captain Kirk (William Shatner).

Lorre Noir at Chicago Cinema
On Friday, September 4, 2026, “Noir City” returns to the Music Box Theatre in Chicago, Illinois, for a week of film noir classics, including Peter Lorre, Dan Duryea, and June Vincent in a 35mm print of Black Angel (1946).
Black Angel will be shown at 7 pm on Saturday, September 5, presented by Eddie Muller, the “Czar of Noir” and host of Turner Classic Movies channel “Noir Alley”.
Tickets are $15 for General Admission; $14 for seniors, age 65 and older; and $12 for Music Box Theatre members. Tickets may be purchased at the cinema box office. Tickets may also be purchased through the Music Box website. A nominal fee will be added to each ticket purchased online.

The historic Lark Theater, located in Larkspur, California, steps into the shadows of film noir the week of September 2, 2026, with a festival including Peter Lorre’s first sound movie M (1931) – and ending with the detective movie spoof The Cheap Detective (1978).
M will be shown on Friday, September 4, at 9:15 am, and again on Saturday, September 5, at 5:40 pm.

Students! Amherst Cinema Seminar Includes Lorre!
On Monday, August 17, 2026, a favorite Cinema Seminar returns to the Amherst Cinema, located in Amherst, Massachusetts – The Making of Casablanca, taught by local filmmaker and film expert Nina Kleinberg.
Ms. Kleinberg will discuss the making of the classic war-time drama Casablanca (1942), including the lead and supporting cast members – Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, Claude Rains, Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet, and many others. She will also discuss the work of the crew behind the camera – the director, cinematographer, editor, and composer, among others.
The seminar will begin at 6:30 pm, with a screening of Casablanca following at approximately 7:30 pm.

As part of their series “Summer of Thrills”, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, located in Los Angeles, California, will present a showing of M (1933), the first sound movie of both Peter Lorre and German director Fritz Lang, on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
At 2:30 pm, Howard A. Rodman, governor of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, will present the film in the Ted Mann Theater, located in the Saban Building.

In the mid-1940s, Peter Lorre served as the main host for the Armed Forces Radio Service series Mystery Playhouse, which featured specially-edited episodes of such popular radio shows as The Whistler, Mr. District Attorney, Inner Sanctum Mysteries, and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
Peter would introduce each episode, often greeting the audience with his trademarked “Hello, Kreeps!” A visit to the Green Room for a preview of the next episode often ended each program, as Peter bid everyone, “Good night! Sleep tight!” and closed the doors of the Mystery Playhouse.
Mystery Playhouse programs were then shipped out on thick recording discs to American bases all over the world to be enjoyed by service men and women stationed overseas.
“Frisbie Proves His Point” originally aired on Mr. and Mrs. North on Wednesday, January 17, 1945. The episode now exists only as an entry in the AFRS series, including Lorre’s own Inner Sanctum Mysteries episode, “Death is a Joker” (June 10, 1944).

Manhattan Cinema Includes Lorre Film
As Noir City: New York draws to a close this weekend, the Paris Theater in Manhattan offers Lorre fans a special treat – the East Coast premier of a new 4k restoration of Stranger on Third Floor (1940) on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
Presented by the “Czar of Noir” Eddie Muller, who also hosts “Noir Alley” on the Turner Classic Movies channel, the 4k restoration was taken from the original nitrate camera negative of Stranger on the Third Floor.
The program begins at 7 pm with an introduction by Eddie Muller, followed by the Looney Tunes cartoon “Racketeer Rabbit” (1946), featuring animated versions of Peter Lorre and Edward G. Robinson encountering Bugs Bunny in old dark house, and Stranger on the Third Floor.
Admission is $17 for adults, and $15 for seniors (age 62 and over), children (age 12 and under), students (22 and under), members of the military, patrons with the MTA reduced-fare MetroCard for people with disabilities, and First Responders. However, unlike his Falcon co-star Sydney Greenstreet, he was not offered a contract. Unsure of how Peter would fit in with their stock company of players, Warner Bros. hired him back on a picture-to-picture basis – Arsenic and Old Lace, All Through the Night, and finally Casablanca.
By the time Arsenic and Old Lace was released in 1944 – after the Broadway play ended its run – Peter Lorre had signed a contract with Warners and appeared as lead actor or in support of leading actors such as Humphrey Bogart and Paul Henreid.

George Eastman Museum Screens Lorre Classic
On Thursday, June 25, 2026, the George Eastman Museum, located in Rochester, New York, will show The Face Behind the Mask (1941) as part of their series “Lose Yourself”, curated by students from The L. Jeffrey Selznick School of Film Preservation.
The film will begin at 7:30 pm in the Dryden Theatre. Selznick student Karina Longworth will introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion.

Monsterpalooza Event Features Lorre
Lorre fans attending the annual Monsterpalooza convention at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, California, May 29 to 31, 2026, are in for a special treat – Karie Bible will moderate an hour-long talk on Peter Lorre, with her co-host cinema-media historian Dawn Fratini!
In “Peter Lorre: Master of Menace”, Karie and Dawn will discuss the actor’s background in horror films, as well as the man behind the image.
The event will begin at 12 noon on Sunday, May 31, the final day of Monsterpalooza.
The three-day Monsterpalooza will be held at the Pasadena Convention Center, located at 300 East Green Street in Pasadena, California. The convention begins on Friday, May 29, and runs until Sunday, May 31, 2026.
Tickets may be purchased online through the Monsterpalooza website, as well as at the door of the convention center. One-day only tickets are available for each day – $42.91 for Friday; $55 for Saturday; and $50 for Sunday. A three-day ticket is also available for $96.54.

Lorre Film at Campus Cinema
Lorre fans attending Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, are in for a special treat tonight when the historic art deco Campus Theatre shows the 1963 horror-comedy The Comedy of Terrors, starring Peter Lorre, Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, and Basil Rathbone.
The film will begin at 8 pm on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

Frida Cinema Bogie Fest Includes Lorre
Lorre fans in the area of Santa Ana, California, will be treated to two of Peter’s classic movies on the big screen when the Frida Cinema presents Casablanca (1942) and The Maltese Falcon (1941) as part of their months-long “Bogie Fest”, celebrating the career of Peter’s off-screen pal Humphrey Bogart.

Lorre Film Opens Noir City Hollywood
Peter Lorre and many other classic film actors will “Face the Music” when the film noir festival “Noir City: Hollywood” returns to the historic Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles, California, and celebrates twenty movies and two weekends of music, murder, and mystery.
On Friday, April 3, 2026, the festival kicks off with 35mm prints of Black Angel (1946), starring Lorre, Dan Duryea, and June Vincent; followed by Blues in the Night (1941), with Richard Whorf and Jack Carson.
Doors open at 6 pm with a musical performance by the Nick Rossi Trio. Singer Laura Ellis follows at 7 pm. Eddie Muller, the “Czar of Noir”, and Alan K. Rode, director of the Film Noir Foundation, introduce Black Angel. Following the intermission, Eddie Muller returns to the stage with Nick Rossi to introduce Blues in the Night.

Bob Hope Fest in Palo Alto Includes Lorre
As part of their current series “Musicals, Plus Bob Hope”, the Stanford Theatre, located in Palo Alto, California, will screen the only movie Peter Lorre made with Bob Hope – the private eye spoof My Favorite Brunette (1947).
My Favorite Brunette will be shown on Thursday, February 19, and Friday, February 20, 2026, on a double-bill with the Bob Hope and Bing Crosby classic Road to Morocco (1942).
My Favorite Brunette begins at 5:30 pm and 9:05 pm each day. Road to Morocco begins at 7:30 pm on each day.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Lorre Lovers!
This year, Valentine’s Day falls on Saturday, February 14, 2026, and many cinemas around the world have scheduled special screenings of the 1942 wartime classic Casablanca from Warner Bros, starring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Victor Laszlo, Claude Rains, Dooley Wilson, and in small supporting roles, Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet, among other actors, many of whom were themselves refugees from the Nazis in Europe.
In the small but important role of Ugarte, who provides exit visits to refugees desperate to leave Casablanca – and the murderer of two German couriers – Peter Lorre gets the film’s action going by leaving with his friend Rick Blaine (Bogart) two valuable letters of transit he intends to sell to escaping freedom fighter Victor Lazlo (Henreid) and his wife Ilsa (Bergman).
It was a part to which Peter attached no importance – and he often said he earned more money playing the roulette wheel in the “casino” set between takes than he did collecting his salary for the part. Bogart, Bergman, and Henreid had their doubts about the movie, too. Little did any of them know that Casablanca would one day be considered the most romantic movie of all time.
