Old-Time Radio Series Airs Lorre Episode

On Thursday, September 25, 2025, Lorre fans can turn back time to the summer of 1947 when the syndicated old-time radio series When Radio Was airs an episode of Peter’s series Mystery in the Air.

Host Greg Bell will present Mystery in the Air, “The Queen of Spades” (September 11, 1947), followed by Chandu the Magician, “Betty and Bob Disappear” (July 27, 1948).

On the satellite radio service SiriusXM, this edition of When Radio Was will air over the Radio Classics channel, channel 148, at 12 noon Eastern Standard Time, and 9 am Pacific.

Many local radio stations throughout the United States also air When Radio Was.

Lorre Classic Onscreen at Regal Theaters

During the month of September, 2025, the Regal theater chain in the United States has brought back to movie screens many cinema favorites, and on Wednesday, September 24, the World War II classic Casablanca (1942) will be shown.

Show times and prices will vary by individual Regal cinemas.

The “Month of Masterpieces” series runs from Monday, September 1, to Tuesday, September 30, 2025, with a different classic film shown every day.

Dallas Noir Fest Includes Lorre

In the fall of 2025, the Dallas International Film Festival teams up with the Violet Crown Dallas cinema to present “Hardboiled & Heartbroken” – four film noir classics.

Next up, on Sunday, September 14, 2025, is The Maltese Falcon (1941), the mystery classic starring Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor, Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet, and Elisha Cook Jr.

  • Scarlet Street (1945) – Sunday, September 28

Lorre Classic Onscreen in Virginia

Peter Lorre fans in the area of Culpepper, Virginia, can enjoy a special treat on Thursday, September 11, 2025, when the Library of Congress screens Stranger on the Third Floor at their Packard Campus.

The film begins at 7:30 pm, followed by the Warner Bros. film The Florentine Dagger (1935), starring Donald Woods and Margaret Lindsay.

Admission is free for everyone. Children age 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Seating is first-come, first-serve. Patrons must go through a security check, and food, drink, large purses, parcels, or backpacks are not permitted.

The Library of Congress Packard Campus Theater is located at 19053 Mount Pony Road in Culpeper, Virginia.

Parking is available in the campus lot. Access to the parking lot begins one hour before show time at 2 pm. Entrance into the building begins 45 minutes in advance, and the theater opens for seating 30 minutes before curtain.

SiriusXM Salute to Star Trek Includes Lorre

The iconic science-fiction television series Star Trek made its debut on September 8, 1966, and this week, old-time radio host Greg Bell celebrates the 59th anniversary of the series Gene Roddenberry created with a two-hour block of old-time radio episodes scripted by Trek writers Roddenberry, Theodore Sturgeon, and Robert Bloch, as well as an episode starring Trek regular DeForest Kelly, who played the starship Enterprise doctor McCoy.

Airing on the Radio Classics channel over the satellite radio service SiriusXM, the block includes an episode of Peter Lorre’s mid-1940s series for the Armed Forces Radio Service Mystery Playhouse – “Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper”, originally airing over NBC on the series Mollé Mystery Theatre, Tuesday, February 27, 1945.

The Star Trek anniversary block includes – X-Minus One, “Mr. Costello, Hero” (July 3, 1956), written by Theodore Sturgeon; Mollé Mystery Theatre, “Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper” (February 27, 1945), written by Robert Bloch; Suspense, "Fleshpeddler" (August 8, 1957), with DeForest Kelley; and Have Gun, Will Travel, “Helen of Abajinian” (January 4, 1959), written by Gene Roddenberry.

Specially-edited Mollé Mystery Theatre episodes frequently aired over the Armed Forces Radio Series program Mystery Playhouse, often hosted by Peter Lorre. Other mystery and horror series airing on the Mystery Playhouse were The Whistler, Inner Sanctum Mysteries, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, and many others.

Peter Lorre’s connection with the Star Trek TV series? His first wife Celia Lovsky guest-starred in the second season opener “Amok Time” on September 13, 1967, as the Vulcan priestess T’Pau, in a Spock-featured episode involving the Vulcan science officer’s wedding – turned fight to the death between Spock and Captain Kirk.

Film Festival Includes Lorre

As the Trylon Cinema, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, brings its movie series “Nazis . . . We Hate These Guys!” to an end this month, Peter Lorre fans can catch his Nazi spy character Pepi when the cinema shows All Through the Night (1942) from Sunday, September 7, to Tuesday, September 9, 2025.

All Through the Night will be shown on these dates and times –

Sunday, September 7 – 7:30 pm

Monday, September 8 – 7 pm and 9:15 pm

Tuesday, September 9 – 7 pm and 9:15 pm

Admission is $8 for all seats. Tickets may be purchased at the box-office before showtime. Tickets may also be purchased online through the Trylon website. Tickets ordered online will be held at the “Will Call” window for pick-up.

Fall Into Fall with Peter Lorre Movies

Summer is over, and fall begins with a variety of Lorre movies and TV shows in September on the Turner Classic Movies channel, the Talking Pictures TV channel in England, and Movies! Network in the United States.

In September, the Turner Classic Movies channel salutes actress Lauren Bacall with a day of her movies, including the only film she made with Peter Lorre.

Sep 2 (Tues), 11:15 am, TCM – Mad Love (1935). The daytime theme is "Stalk Footage" with a day of movies involving stalkers, including Peter Lorre's first American movie as a brilliant surgeon obsessed with the actress Yvonne Orlac (Frances Drake). NOTE: In Canada, Desperate Search (1953) will be shown instead of Mad Love.

Sep 4 (Thurs), 2 am, TCM – The Beast with Five Fingers (1946). The primetime theme is "Noir or Not Noir" with an evening of movies with a darker theme, including Peter Lorre's only horror film at the Warner Bros studio.

Sep 8 (Mon), 10 am, TCM – The Cross of Lorraine (1943). The daytime theme is "Resistance Isn't Futile" with a day of films set during World War II, including the MGM film about French soldiers who surrendered to the Nazis and ended up in a prisoner of war camp in Germany.

Sep 9 (Tues), 6:15 am, Talking Pictures TV – Double Convession (1950).

Sep 16 (Tues), 2:30 pm, TCM – Confidential Agent (1945). TCM salutes actress Lauren Bacall with a day of her movies, including her first movie as "Mrs. Humphrey Bogart" and the only movie she made with Bogie's pal, Peter Lorre – a spy drama set in London and starring Charles Boyer.

Sep 25 (Thurs), 1 pm, Rewind TV, British television – My Favorite Brunette (1947).

Sep 25 (Thurs), 12:15 am, TCM – Screen Directors Playhouse, "No. Five Checked Out" (NBC, Jan 1, 1956) TCM salutes 60 years of the UCLA Film and Television Archive with an evening of classic television programs, hosted by Eddie Muller and May Hong HaDuong, Director of the UCLA Television and Film Archive. Actress Ida Lupina directed this episode of the 1950s anthology series Screen Directors Playhouse, starring Peter Lorre, Theresa Wright, and William Talman.

Sep 27 (Sat), 12 noon, TCM – Silk Stockings (1957). TCM host Dave Karger presents the Fred Astaire musical Silk Stockings as today's "Musical Matinee", including a singing and dancing Peter Lorre.
