October brings Halloween, and the Turner Classic Movies channel and the Movies! Network have scheduled plenty of horror movies from the 1930s and 1940s – including Peter Lorre's first American role, Mad Love (1935).

October, 2021

Oct. 1 (Fri), 9:35 pm, Movies! Network channel – Mad Love (1935). Peter made his American movie debut in this classic from MGM. As Dr. Gogol, he loves stage actress Yvonne Orlac (Frances Drake) from afar and soon has an opportunity to ingratiate himself with her when her husband Stephen mangles his hands in a train accident.

Oct. 2 (Sat), 1:25 pm, Movies! Network – You'll Find Out (1940). In this comedy version of an old, dark house film, band-leader Kay Kyser and his College of Musical Knowledge band play for a 21st birthday party, with Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, and Bela Lugosi.

Oct. 3 (Sun), 2:15 am, Movies! Network – Three Strangers (1946). Peter joins Sydney Greenstreet and Geraldine Fitzgerald as the title characters who make a combined wish on a statuette of an ancient Chinese goddess, with tragic results.

Oct. 8 (Fri), 10:35 am, Movies! Network – Mad Love (1935). The Movies! Network presents a day of Peter Lorre films.

Oct. 8 (Fri), 12:05 pm, Movies! Network – You'll Find Out (1940).

Oct. 8 (Fri), 2:15 pm, Movies! Network – Three Strangers (1946).

Oct. 8 (Fri), 4:15 pm, Movies! Network – Stranger on the Third Floor (1940).

Oct. 8 (Fri), 5:40 pm, Movies! Network – Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961). The day of Lorre films ends with this Irwin Allen sci-fi picture from the early 1960s.

Oct. 10 (Sun), 7:25 am, Movies! Network – Mad Love (1935).

Oct. 10 (Sun), 8 am, Turner Classic Movies channel – The Constant Nymph (1943).

Oct. 11 (Mon), 6 pm, TCM – Arsenic and Old Lace (1944). The daytime theme is "Murder on the Menu", and a highly-toxic glass of homemade elderberry wine is on the menu at the Brewster house in this classic comedy.

Oct. 14 (Thurs), 7:55 am, Movies! Network – Stranger on the Third Floor (1940).

Oct. 14 (Thurs), 11 am, TCM – M (1931). "Madmen" is the daytime theme.

Oct. 14 (Thurs), 8 pm, Movies! Network – Three Strangers (1946).

Oct. 15 (Fri), 4:15 pm, TCM – The Big Circus (1959). "At the Circus" is the daytime theme, including Peter Lorre as Skeeter the Clown and Vincent Price as Hans Hagenfeld, the circus ring master.

Oct. 31 (Sun), 12:45 pm, TCM – Mad Love (1935). TCM's daytime theme is "Halloween Marathon", including Peter's first American film as the brilliant Parisian surgeon Dr. Gogol.
