Famed director Martin Scorsese founded the non-profit Film Foundation to preserve cinema. On the second Monday of every month, the Foundation opens the virtual theater, available through any web browser, to programs on restored classic, silent, and independent movies and documentaries from around the world.

The UCLA Film and Television Archive restored The Chase from a 35mm nitrate composite duplicate negative from a collector in France, and dupe picture and track negatives from MGM. Combining these incomplete elements, UCLA used digital tools to restore a short section of the movie.

The restored print of The Chase is also available on Blu-Ray, with audio commentary by filmmaker Guy Maddin.
