Boston Public Library Presents Lorre Film

Come out of the cold of the winter storm to the warmth of the South Boston Public Library on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, for a showing of Rope of Sand (1948), as the library’s January celebration of actor Paul Henreid comes to a close.

The film begins at 1 pm.

Admission is free for everyone.

The South Boston Public Library is located at 646 East Broadway in South Boston, Massachusetts.

Parking is available along East Broadway, as well as a small parking lot beside the library.

SiriusXM Celebrates Lorre Favorite Author Birthday

Peter Lorre much admired Edgar Allan Poe, the American writer of mystery and suspense, born January 19, 1809. In addition to appearing in Poe films in the early 1960s, Peter also performed dramatic readings of “The Tell-Tale Heart” in cinema stage shows in the 1940s.

And during the summer of 1947, “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Black Cat” were adapted for episodes of the Lorre radio series Mystery in the Air.

To celebrate the 217th birthday of Edgar Allan Poe, Radio Classics channel host Greg Bell presents a pair of two-hour blocks of Poe-inspired radio shows, “Poe Man 1” and “Poe Man 2”, during the week of Monday, January 19, to Sunday, January 25, 2026.

Included in the “Poe Man 1” block is the Peter Lorre episode “The Black Cat” from his radio series Mystery in the Air, originally broadcast over NBC on September 18, 1947.

The “Poe Man 1” block includes these programs – Inner Sanctum, “The Tell-Tale Heart” (August 3, 1934); Mystery in the Air, “The Black Cat” (September 18, 1947); The Weird Circle, “Murders in the Rue Morgue” (January 2, 1944); and Suspense, “The Pit and the Pendulum” (January 12, 1943).

The “Poe Man 1” block will air these dates and times ~

Monday, January 19 –
5 pm Pacific, 8 pm Eastern

Wednesday, January 21 –
7 am Pacific, 10 am Eastern

Saturday, January 24 –
1 am Pacific, 4 am Eastern

TCM begins the new year with several Peter Lorre movies.

Jan 1 (Thurs), 9:30 am, Fox Movie Channel – Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961).

Jan 5 (Mon), 4 pm, TCM – Meet Me in Las Vegas (1956). The daytime theme is "Betting Big", including this tale of a rancher (Dan Daily) and a ballerina (Cyd Charisse) who find romance in Las Vegas over the roulette tables and casinos.

Jan 7 (Wed), 4:15 pm, TCM – The Conspirators (1944). The daytime theme is "Secret Agents", including two of Peter Lorre's spy thrillers back-to-back.

Jan 7 (Wed), 6 pm, TCM – Confidential Agent (1945). The daytime theme is "Secret Agents", with the second of two Lorre spy thrillers.

Jan 115 (Thurs), 9:30 am, Talking Pictures TV – British television – Double Confession (1950).

Jan 23 (Fri), 10 pm, TCM – Casablanca (1942). The primetime theme is "Flashback Friday", and tonight the emphasis is on "Romance", including the classic wartime drama considered one of the greatest romantic movies in film history.

Jan 26 (Mon), 12 midnight, TCM – The Maltese Falcon (1941). Guest programmer Michael Kalish joins TCM host Dave Karger for an evening of movies that have inspired Kalish as an artist, and one of his creations is a portrait of Humphrey Bogart.

In February, TCM's Star of the Month is Bugs Bunny! And every Tuesday will feature some of the animated Bugs' greatest cartoons.

Feb 3 (Tues), TCM – "Hair-Raising Hare" (1946) Bugs Bunny encounters a mad scientist who looks like Peter Lorre.
