Springtime for Lorre on TV

As winter becomes spring, Lorre fans have many movies to look forward to on the Turner Classic Movies channel, as well as other channels.

All times shown are Eastern Standard.

Peter Lorre’s page on the TV Guide Channel website lists the Lorre films scheduled on various television channels over a 2-week period.



February, 2020

Throughout February and the first few days in March, the Turner Classic Movies channel presents their annual “31 Days of Oscar”, including a few Oscar-winning and Oscar-nominated movies in Peter’s filmography.

Feb. 2 (Sun), 12 noon, Turner Classic Movies – The Maltese Falcon (1941).

Feb. 15 (Sat), 8 pm, TCM – Casablanca (1942).

Feb. 19 (Wed), 12 midnight, TCM – Around the World in 80 Days (1956).



March, 2020

TCM’s "31 Days of Oscar" ends on March 2, 2020, and a handful of Peter’s movies fill out the rest of the month. And the Movies! Network is now screening many Warner Bros. movies, including those starring or co-starring Peter Lorre, with Three Strangers a highlight this month.

Mar. 5 (Thurs), 6 am, Movies! Network – Three Strangers (1946).

Mar. 5 (Thurs), 3:50 pm, Movies! Network – Quicksand (1950).

Mar. 6 (Fri), 10 pm, TCM – Muscle Beach Party (1964). Peter Lorre passed away on March 23, 1964. Screening in movie theaters was Muscle Beach Party, the second of the popular "Beach Party" movies, starring Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello.

Mar. 8 (Sun), 8 pm, Movies! Network – Three Strangers (1946).

Mar. 10 (Tues), 1:30 am, MeTV channel – Alfred Hitchcock Presents, "The Diplomatic Corpse" (originally broadcast CBS, Dec. 8, 1957). The first of Peter's two appearances on this anthology series finds Peter in the role of a Mexican detective, trying to locate a dead body for two American tourists (George Peppard and Mary Scott).

Mar. 22 (Sun), 12:05 am, Movies! Network – Three Strangers (1946).

Mar. 25 (Wed), 4 am, TCM – The Comedy of Terrors (1964). Joe E. Brown is TCM’s “Star of the Month”, and in this horror-comedy about an undertaker (Vincent Price) who “digs up” customers, aided by his criminal assistant (Peter Lorre), Joe E. Brown appears in a cameo as the cemetery keeper.

Mar. 25 (Wed), 5:30 am, TCM – Around the World in 80 Days (1956).



April, 2020

April brings a handful of Lorre movies to television – and a chance to attend the "Special Home Edition" of the 11th annual TCM Classic Film Festival, with the regular film festival cancelled in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

April 11 (Sat), 2:30 am, TCM – The Jack Benny Show (Jan. 22, 1963). Peter Lorre was the guest on this installment of the popular comedian Jack Benny's TV show.

April 18 (Sat), 8 am, TCM – Mad Love (1935). Peter's first American film was introduced last year at the 2019 festival by Bill Hader. Actress Cora Sue Collins, who as a child played Dr. Gogol's lame patient, was in the audience.

April 18 (Sat), 8 pm, TCM – Casablanca (1942). Director Peter Bogdanovich hosts the showing of this TCM favorite, which has been included three times in past TCM Film Fests.

April 26 (Sun), 11:30 am, TCM – Casablanca (1942).
