Lorre Lovers, Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Peter

In 2020, Valentine’s Day – February 14 – falls on a Friday, and it’s not too soon to start making plans to celebrate by catching a special showing of Casablanca (1942), considered by many movie fans as one of the most romantic films in cinema history.

In the pivotal role of Ugarte, provider of exit visas to those desperate to leave Casablanca – and murderer of two German couriers – Peter Lorre gets the action going by leaving with his friend Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) two valuable letters of transit he intends to sell to escaping freedom fighter Victor Lazlo (Paul Henreid) and his wife Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman).

And although limited to only a few scenes, Peter is always a treat to watch in a movie theater, including these ~

On Sunday, February 9, the matinee showing of Casablanca will feature $3 mimosas.

On Valentine’s Day, a special Valentine’s Day package of $40 per couple is available – tickets to Casablanca, two drinks, including wine, beer, champagne, coffee, or soda; a large popcorn; and two mini ice cream sundaes.

On Valentine’s Day, admission is $8 for Casablanca. For all other showings, admission is $7 for adults, and $6 for children and seniors.

Prytania Theatre ~ The Prytania Theatre, located in New Orleans, Louisiana, will show Casablanca on Sunday, February 9, and Wednesday, February 12.

Casablanca will be shown at 10 am on both days.

Admission is $6 for all seats. Tickets may be purchased at the box-office or online through the cinema’s website. A nominal fee will be added to each ticket purchased online.

Brattle Theatre ~ The Brattle Theatre, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, continues its popular Valentine’s Day tradition of Casablanca screenings with a 35mm print of the movie ~
  • February 13, Thursday – 4 pm and 7 pm
  • February 14, Friday – 4 pm and 7 pm
  • February 15, Saturday – 7 pm
Tickets for the 4 pm matinee showing are $10 for adults, students, and members of the Brattle; $9 for seniors age 65 and older, as well as children under age 12.

Tickets for the 7 pm showings are $12 general admission; $10 for students and members of the Brattle; and $9 for seniors and children.

Special Premium tickets are also available for $20 for all showings on February 13 and 14, and include seating in a reserved section and unlimited popcorn and soda. Tickets may be purchased at the box-office, as well as on-line through the Brattle website.

Kentucky Theatre ~ The historic Kentucky Theatre, located in Lexington, Kentucky, will show Casablanca on Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14.

The movie will begin at 7:30 pm.

Tickets are $8.50 for general admission, and $6.50 for children (age 13 and under) and seniors (age 60 and over). Tickets may be purchased at the cinema’s box-office or online through the cinema’s website. A nominal fee will be added to each ticket purchased online.

Redford Theatre ~ Originally built in the 1920s for silent movies, the Redford Theatre, located in Detroit, Michigan, will screen Casablanca on Saturday, February 15.

The movie will be shown at 2 pm and 8 pm.

Music Box Theater ~ Sing along with your Valentine at the Music Box Theater, located in Chicago, Illinois, on Sunday, February 16.

The “Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Sing-Along” begins at 2 pm with a selection of love songs played by Dennis Scott on the Music Box’s organ, with the lyrics projected on the movie screen, followed by the screening of Casablanca.

Chehalis Theater ~ Share a heart-shaped pizza and a freshly-made salad with your Valentine at the Chehalis Theater, located in Chehalis, Washington, on Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14.

Casablanca begins at 5:30 pm.

Hilbert Circle Theatre ~ Enjoy Casablanca with a live symphony orchestra at the Hilbert Circle Theatre, in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Friday and Saturday, February 14 and 15.

The program begins at 8 pm both evenings. The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will perform live the film’s Max Steiner score during the screening of Casablanca.
