SiriusXM Includes Lorre Radio Series This Week

Lorre fans will have the opportunity during the week of April 24, 2023, to enjoy an episode of Peter’s 1947 summer series Mystery in the Air when the satellite radio provider SiriusXM airs “Crime and Punishment” (Sept. 24, 1947) over the Radio Classics channel.

The summer replacement series for The Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Show, Mystery in the Air ran for 13 weeks during the summer of 1947, beginning with “The Tell-Tale Heart” on July 3, and ending with “Crime and Punishment” on September 25, 1947.


In “Crime and Punishment”, Peter Lorre co-stars with his regular Mystery in the Air cast, including Harry Morgan as “The Voice of Mystery”, Peggy Webber, Luis van Rooten, Gloria Ann Simpson, and Ben Wright. Adapted from Peter’s own 1935 Columbia Studios film, the story the cat-and-mouse game between Roderick Raskolnikov, the student of crime who murders a pawnbroker, and Inspector Porfiry, the detective investigating the crime.

In the pages of The Lost One: A Life of Peter Lorre, Stephen D. Youngkin discusses Peter’s radio career, which began in Germany in the 1930s and continued throughout his years in Hollywood.
