Lorre Movies on TV in August

August brings a handful of Peter Lorre movies on the Turner Classic Movies channel, as well as other channels, including Talking Pictures TV.

American times shown are Eastern Standard.

Peter Lorre’s page on the TV Guide Channel website lists the Lorre films scheduled on various television channels over a 2-week period.


August, 2023

Every August, TCM presents their "Summer Under the Stars" film festival, devoting each day in the month to a different actor. In years past, Peter Lorre has been among the stars honored with a day, but this year, several of the actors he worked with are on the schedule.

Aug 3 (Thurs), 6:45 am, Talking Pictures TV – My Favorite Brunette (1947). Peter co-stars with Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour in this comedy mystery.

Aug 4 (Fri), 22:55, Talking Pictures TV – The Raven (1963). Cellar Club with Caroline Munro presents this horror comedy starring Peter Lorre and Vincent Price.

Aug 7 (Mon), 5:30 am, Antenna TV – The Jack Benny Program (Jan 22, 1963).

Aug 10 (Thurs), 6 am, TCM – The Big Circus (1959). TCM salutes Rhonda Fleming with a day of her movies, beginning with the only film she made with Peter Lorre, set in a traveling three-ring circus.

Aug 15 (Tues), 8:15 am, TCM – The Story of Mankind (1957). Ronald Coleman is the "Star of the Day", including the only film he made with Peter Lorre. highlighting the villains and heroes of human history.

Aug 17 (Thurs), 1 am, TCM – My Favorite Brunette (1947). Bob Hope is the "Star of the Day", including this comedy about a baby photographer turned private detective (Hope) and the gang after uranium. Note – In Canada, A Global Affair (1964) will be shown instead.

Aug 18 (Fri), 12 midnight, TCM – Silk Stockings (1957). TCM salutes Fred Astaire with a day of movies, including this musical featuring a singing and dancing Peter Lorre.

Aug 27 (Sun), 4 pm, TCM – Passage to Marseille (1944). TCM salutes Peter Lorre's pal Humphrey Bogart, including this war-time drama about French prisoners escaping from Devil's Island to join the Free French.

Aug 27 (Sun), 10 pm, TCM – The Maltese Falcon (1941). TCM s continues Humphrey Bogart's day with the classic mystery.


Sneak Peek at September, 2023

September brings a handful of Lorre films. TCM's annual "Summer Under the Stars" film festival, and this year, the actors co-starring with Peter Lorre include Rhonda Fleming, Ronald Colman, Bob Hope, Fred Astaire, and Humphrey Bogart.

Sept 12 (Tues), 2 pm, TCM – Hollywood Canteen (1944). The daytime theme is "Hollywood Stars as Themselves", including this all-star musical featuring Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet.

Sept 25 (Mon), 5:15 am, TCM – The Cross of Lorraine (1943). The primetime theme is "World War II POWs", including this war-time drama set in a German prisoner of war camp.
