Lorre Film at the AFI in Maryland

As part of their salute to production designer Ken Adams, the American Film Institute in Silver Spring, Maryland, will present a showing of Around the World in 80 Days (1956) on Sunday, July 31, 2016.

Around the World in 80 Days begins at 2 pm in AFI Silver Auditorium 1. The 35mm print includes an intermission, as when the film was originally shown in theaters.

Ticket prices are $13 general admission, $10 for seniors, $8 for children age 12 and under, and $9.50 for AFI members at Two-star level and higher.

Tickets may be purchased on-line through the AFI Silver Theatre website. Tickets purchased on-line must be claimed at the box office with the same credit card used to make the purchase. The AFI Silver accepts American Express, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover credit cards.

Tickets may also be purchased at the AFI Silver box office, which opens 30 minutes before the first film of the day.

In the role of a Japanese steward aboard a ship bound for Yokohama, Peter Lorre is one of the many Hollywood stars making a cameo appearance in the classic adventure of Phileas Fogg (David Niven), who makes a bet with his friends at the Reform Club that he can circle the world in 80 days.

Lorre Film at the Lincoln Theatre in Ohio

The historic Lincoln Theatre in Massillon, Ohio, will present Around the World in 80 Days (1957) this Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 14 and 15, 2015. In the all-star extravaganza, Peter Lorre appears in a cameo role as a Japanese steward aboard a ship bound for Yokohama. In the animated closing credits, Peter becomes a sword-wielding samurai warrior.

On Saturday, Around the World in 80 Days will begin at 7 pm.

On Sunday, the movie will begin at 6 pm.

Admission is $5 for all seats. Tickets may be purchased at the Lincoln box office. Tickets may also be purchased on-line through the Lincoln Theatre website. A receipt will be sent by eMail and must be presented at the box office.

The Lincoln Theatre is located at 156 Lincoln Way East, in Massillon, Ohio.

Parking is available on the streets near the Lincoln.

Built in 1915 as a silent movie house, the Lincoln celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Probably many of Peter Lorre’s movies saw their first runs at the Lincoln, including Around the World in 80 Days. The historic cinema is now lovingly attended to by the local Lions and Rotary clubs, who also work as volunteers.

Around the World in 80 Days in Silver Spring Aug. 31

Peter Lorre fans in the Silver Spring, Maryland, area will have an opportunity for a unique experience this weekend – Around the World in 80 Days (1956) as an original 70mm print, bringing to a close Part 3 of a special series “70mm Spectacular” at the AFI Silver Theatre on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014.

The movie will begin at 1 pm.

Tickets are $12 for general admission; $10 for seniors 65 years and older, students, and the military (with proper ID); and $7 for children 12 and under. For AFI members Two-Star level and higher, admission is $8.50. AFI Member Passes will also be accepted.

Peter enters the story about 90 minutes into the film, as a Japanese steward aboard a steamship bound for Yokohama. An animated Peter also appears in the movie’s closing credits, as a samurai wielding a sword.
