Heights Theater Screens Lorre Comedy Classic

On Monday, September 30, 2024, Peter Lorre fans in the area of Columbia Heights, Minnesota, can celebrate the 80th anniversary of Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) with a viewing of the classic murder-comedy on the big screen of the Heights Theater.

The 35mm print will be shown at 7:30 pm.

Tickets are $15 for all seats. Tickets may be purchased at the box office, as well as online through the cinema’s website. A nominal booking fee will be added to each ticket purchased online.

The Heights Theater is located at 3951 Central Avenue Northeast, at the corner of Central Avenue and Gould Avenue, in Columbia Heights, Minnesota, a northeast suburb of Minneapolis.

Free parking is available in the lot beside the Heights, as well as beside the Heights on the Dairy Queen side – but not directly behind the Heights. This lot belongs to the United Methodist Community Church. Cars parked in the church’s parking lot will be towed. The historic Heights Theater was built in 1926 as a neighborhood movie house, as well as local stage and vaudeville theater. Surviving fires, a bombing, and a tornado, the cinema has been restored to its former glory – and may well have shown Arsenic and Old Lace during its original run in 1944.

Lorre fans can relive those days at the Heights on Monday, September 30, 2024 – including hot buttered popcorn with real butter!

Annapolis Pub Screens Free Lorre Films

The 1747 Pub, located in the historic Reynolds Tavern in Annapolis, Maryland, continues its Sunday night “Dinner and a Classic” free movie program in the outdoor Beer Garden with three Peter Lorre films in September and October, 2024 – Casablanca (1942), The Maltese Falcon (1941), and Arsenic and Old Lace (1944).

Detroit Cinema Screens Lorre Classic

Located in Detroit, Michigan, the Redford Theatre celebrates the 80th anniversary of Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) with a showing of the classic Cary Grant and Peter Lorre comedy on Friday, August 23, 2024.

The film begins at 8 pm.

Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors (60 and older) and children (12 and under). Tickets may be purchased at the box office, which opens at 7 pm. Tickets may also be purchased online through the cinema’s website. A nominal convenience fee will be added to each ticket purchased online.

The Redford Theatre is located at 17360 Lahser Road in the Old Redford neighborhood of Detroit, Michigan.

Parking is available in several lots surrounding the north end of the Redford Theatre. Filmgoers are advised to watch for the signs and the Redford parking attendants who will direct to the best possible parking spots.

Originally opening on January 27, 1928, the Redford Theatre has long been known as a neighborhood movie house and entertainment center, with a three-story grand foyer and a full-size stage. Very likely Arsenic and Old Lace played here on its original run in the early 1940s.

Lorre Comedy at Canadian Cinema

Lorre fans in the area of Toronto, Canada, can enjoy Peter on the big screen when the Paradise Theatre partners with the Toronto Film Society for a showing of Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

The program begins at 2:30 pm, and the Toronto Film Society promises at least one “surprise short film”.

Cary Grant Fest in Palo Alto Includes Lorre

The historic Stanford Theatre, located in Palo Alto, California, will show the Cary Grant comedy Arsenic and Old Lace (1941) the weekend of August 5 and 6, 2023, as part of their film festival “The Best of Cary Grant and Alfred Hitchcock”.

The Peter Lorre classic, on a double-bill with Monkey Business (1952), will be shown at these times ~

• Saturday, August 5 – 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm
• Sunday, August 6 – 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm

Monkey Business will be shown at 5:40 pm and 9:40 pm both days.

Historic Warner Cascade Continues Studio Anniversary

On February, 1907, the four Warner brothers – Harry, Albert, Sam, and Jack – opened their first cinema in New Castle, Pennsylvania. They called it the Cascade Picture Palace. On April 4, 1923, the brothers officially celebrated their incorporation of the Warner Brothers Studio.

And 100 years later, Lorre fans in the New Castle, Pennsylvania, area can enjoy more of Peter’s classic movies in the historic Cascade – now known as the Warner Cascade Theatre Museum – when the cinema continues its celebration of the Warner Bros studio’s 100th anniversary.

Each Thursday at 12 noon, a free Warner Bros classic film will be shown in the Cascade Theatre.

Cary Grant Salute Includes Lorre

London’s British Film Institute continues its salute to actor Cary Grant with showings of Arsenic and Old Lace (1944), the only film Grant made with Peter Lorre.

Chicago University Film Fest Includes Lorre

Held at the University of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, Doc Films continues its summer film festival with two Peter Lorre movies in August – Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) and Stranger on the Third Floor (1940).

Arsenic and Old Lace – A 16mm print will be screened on Friday, August 16, 2019, at 7 pm and 9:30 pm.

Stranger on the Third Floor – A 35mm print will be screened on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at 7 pm.

The longest continuously running student film society in the United States, Doc Films was founded in December of 1940 as the International House Documentary Film Group. Lorre Films Return to Buffalo Movie Expo

On the schedule of classic silent and sound movies of the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, Lorre fans can always find at least one Lorre movie at the annual Western New York Movie Expo, held in Buffalo, New York.

This year, two Lorre films will be shown – Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) and Nancy Steele is Missing (1937).

Nancy Steele is Missing is currently scheduled for Friday evening, Aug. 2, in Screening Room “B”.

New Jersey Classic Film Fest Includes Lorre

The annual West Orange Classic Film Festival, held in the New Jersey town of West Orange, where Thomas Edison invented the moving picture camera in 1889, includes two Peter Lorre films in January, 2019.

M (1931) will be shown on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at 2 pm.

Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) will be shown the following Sunday, on January 20 at 2 pm.

Each movie in the fest will be followed by a FILMCHAT, a discussion led by film scholars and critics, including Stephen Whitty, Star Ledger movie critic; Gerard Amsellem, Club Cinematheque founder; John Chasse, and Boris Gavrilovic.

And the following Sunday, October 7, Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) – an excellent entry for October with its Halloween setting – returns to the Beer Garden.

Each movie will begin at dusk, approximately 7 pm.

Admission is free, and showings are open to the public.

Come between 3 and 7 pm and enjoy Happy Hour or a meal at the 1747 Pub. Food and beverage service continues throughout the screenings. Scheduled movies are listed on the Events Calendar page of the pub’s website.

The Beer Garden at the 1747 Pub is located directly behind Reynolds Tavern and has an entrance on Franklin Street. Reynolds Tavern is located at 7 Church Circle, in Annapolis, Maryland.
