Brattle Thanksgiving Schedule Includes Lorre

At the Brattle Theatre, it’s “Give Thanks for Bogie!” over the Thanksgiving weekend, and Lorre fans in the Cambridge, Massachusetts, area can give thanks for Peter, too, during showings of Casablanca (1942).

The movie will be shown on Saturday, November 26, and Sunday, November, 27, 2022, at these times ~

• 1 pm
• 3:30 pm
• 6 pm
• 8:30 pm

The film will be screened on a 35mm print.

Matinee prices are $12 for general admission. Evening prices are $14 for general admission. Admission is $12 for children under 12; students with proper student ID; military with valid ID; seniors age 65 and older; and Brattle members.

Tickets may be purchased at the box office, which opens 30 minutes before the first show of the day. Tickets may also be purchased online through the cinema’s website. Click the show-time and select a ticket option from the list. Tickets may be picked up at the “Will Call” office. A nominal fee will be added to all online purchases.

The Brattle Theatre is located in Brattle Hall, at 40 Brattle Street, a block from Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Also located in the building are the Algiers Café and the Alden and Harlow Restaurant. The cinema’s entrance is on the left side of the building – look for the sidewalk poster case and the marquee.

Parking is available at meters around Harvard Square, as well as nearby parking garages. The Brattle Theatre box office will validate parking tickets for the Charles Square Garage and the University Place Garage.

The Brattle Theatre is well-served by public transportation – both MBTA bus routes and the subway.

Casablanca at the Cabot Theater

The historic Cabot Theater, located in Beverly, Massachusetts, celebrates the 80th anniversary of Casablanca (1942) with a showing of the classic movie on Sunday, November 27, 2022.

The film will be shown at 6 pm.

Admission is $12.25 for adults, and $10.25 for seniors (age 60 and older), students with valid Student ID, and children (age 12 and younger).

Tickets may be purchased through the Cabot website. A nominal booking fee will be charged for each ticket purchased online. More information about tickets may be found on the venue’s website.

The Cabot Theater is located at 286 Cabot Street, at the corner of Cabot and Judson streets in Beverly, Massachusetts.

The Maltese Falcon On-Screen in Two Cinemas

Peter Lorre’s classic mystery The Maltese Falcon (1941) will be on-screen at two cinemas this week – the Carolina Theater in Durham, North Carolina, and the Starlight Cinemas chain in southern California.

Carolina Theater – Durham, N. Carolina

As part of its “Retro Film Series”, the Carolina Theater, located in Durham, North Carolina, will show The Maltese Falcon (1941) on a double-bill with The Big Sleep (1946) on Wednesday, November 11, 2022.

The program begins at 7 pm with The Big Sleep, followed by The Maltese Falcon. The Retro Film Series brings back the good old days of movie-going with door prizes and movie trailers before each showing.

Admission is $10 for the double-feature.

The historic Carolina Theater, opening in 1926, is located at 309 West Morgan Street in downtown Durham, North Carolina.

During World War II, the Armed Forces Radio Services (AFRS) supplied radio programs to American military men and women serving overseas. Regular series with commercials edited out, as well as commercial-free original programs, were sent out on thick vinyl records to military bases around the world. Mystery Playhouse was comprised of episodes of various suspense and thriller mystery series, such as Mr. and Mrs. North and Sherlock Holmes, as well as anthology series, such as Inner Sanctum Mysteries, The Whistler, and Mollė Mystery Theatre.

As one of several hosts of Mystery Playhouse, Peter Lorre introduced episodes with the greeting, “Hello, Kreeps!” and his usual dry sense of humor. A visit to the Green Room and a preview of the next Mystery Playhouse entry usually closed the program.

Originally broadcast on Inner Sanctum Mysteries, “Death is a Joker” now survives only as an episode of the AFRS program Mystery Playhouse – and hosted by Peter Lorre, who has the unique opportunity to introduce himself in his own program!

Film Society Screens Lorre Classic in Wisconsin

On Wednesday, October 19, 2022, the Green Bay Film Society will present Peter Lorre’s first sound movie, M (1931), as part of the Weidner Downtown Series.

The film will be shown at the historic Tarlton Theatre, located in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The program begins at 7 pm. The doors open at 6 pm.

Admission is free for everyone.

New Jersey Bookshop Screens Poe Films

Get in the spirit of Halloween with Peter Lorre and Edgar Allan Poe when second-hand bookshop Act 2 Books screens a Poe double-feature in their Outdoor Theater on Saturday, October 15, 2022, in Flemington, New Jersey.

The Edgar Allan Poe Fright Night begins at 7 pm with Tales of Terror (1962), starring Vincent Price in three Poe stories – “Morella”, “The Black Cat” (co-starring Peter Lorre), and “The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar” (co-starring Basil Rathbone).

The Pit and the Pendulum, also starring Vincent Price, immediately follows Tales of Terror.

Admission is free for everyone. Bring chairs and blankets as the October evening will be chilly! Act 2 Books will supply complimentary popcorn.

Act 2 Books is located at 24 Central Avenue in Flemington, New Jersey.

Bogart Fest Includes Lorre

For the fifth year, the community theater Theatre in the Heights, located in Citrus Heights, California, presents a three-day Humphrey Bogart Film Festival over the weekend of October 7-9, 2022.

Casablanca (1942) will be shown on Saturday, October 8, at 8 pm.

The Bogart film festival is free for everyone, and reservations are not required. Seating is first-come, first-served.

Popcorn and drinks will be provided. And for those interested in a Bogart-themed cocktail, the Theatre in the Heights will open up the Bogart gin purchased from previous Bogart fests, held annually in Key Largo, Florida, from 2013 to 2017.
