You'll Find Out (1940).
Tonight, "Star of the Month" Bela Lugosi is saluted as a "horror
comedian", with a series of comedies starring Lugosi. The actor
appeared several times with fellow
horror actor Boris Karloff, but only once with Peter Lorre, in this
musical comedy starring Kay Kyser and his College of Musical Knowledge
band. Kay and company are hired to play for a young debutante's 21st
birthday in a mysterious mansion with seances, hidden panels, and
attempts on the birthday girl's life before she can inherit a
fortune.

Stranger on the

Oct 14 (Sat), 6 am, TCM –
Arsenic and Old Lace (1944). A mansion
with 13 bodies buried in the cellar is the setting for this dark
comedy about two little old ladies with an unusual charity.

Darkness falls early in November, and on television, a handful of
Lorre mystery films airs.
Nov 19 (Tues), TCM –
The Maltese Falcon (1941). On TCM,
the daytime theme is "Set in San Francisco" with several films in
the City by the Bay, including this mystery classic about nefarious
characters in search of a fabulous statuette.
Nov 22 (Fri), TCM –
The Mask of Dimitrios (1944). On
TCM, the primetime theme is "Film Noir", including this classic Lorre
and Greenstreet mystery adapted from the novel by Eric Ambler.
Nov 24 (Sun), TCM –
The Maltese Falcon (1941). On TCM,
the primetime theme is "Humphrey Bogart Noir" – a double-feature
of mysteries starring Bogart, beginning with the mystery classic
that introduced Bogie to Peter Lorre.
